We are planning a small single storey extension, approximately 1m X 4m, this will be an expansion to our current kitchen area and will involve knocking through the wall into the kitchen and adding an RSJ (unsure if timber or steel). The roof will be a slopped roof joining onto the vertical wall that is already in-place. There would be a single small sky light in the roof. We are based in the Midlands and the ground is a sandy ground, apparently better for building and foundations. What would be a ball park figure for the cost the building work, plastering and wiring together?
Could you let me know what I should expect to pay to have someone remove the grass and weed (plus take away) my twenty six by thirty six foot garden? I have already removed half the grass and two thirds of the weeds but its slow going and need it done as soon as possible.
I am currently replacing a 2 gang light switch in my hall with a 3 gang modular switch. i.e. there are 3 separate switch modules which are mounted on a metal grid plate, which is then fixed to the back box and then a face plate fitted over the front. The instructions are minimal (no wiring diagrams are given) but they say the metal grid plate which the switch modules are mounted on must be earthed using the earth terminal on it. Is the grid plate earthed by connecting a yellow/green sheathed wire from the grid plate terminal to the earth terminal on the back box? This gives 4 earth connections to the back box, 1 from the grid + 3 from the incoming switch cables?
I need to render a partial extension and some other repair work. The issue I have is the walls are uneven and there are slight differences in where the brickwork and blocks come out to. When putting the scratch coat on can it be thicker in sections to try and even it out or do I need to put a coat on, let it dry then put another scratch coat on top? What's the best way of dealing with rendering the uneven walls?
Hi all, I'm half way through a home insurance claim for water damage from an upstairs shower. The leaks have been fixed and the structure is now dry. As part of the process the home insurance company outsourced the leak detection and drying out to a company who essentially stripped the ceiling of a bedroom (i.e. no ceiling at all) and removed water damaged insulation. What needs to happen now is someone to put new insulation back, get ceiling plaster board in and decorate I assume. What trades would do this? I'm totally lost and the insurer isn't helping either.
I would like to change my old electric oven for a new one, however my old one is connected directly into a fused connection unit, while the new one is coming with a plug. How much will it cost to change it, please?
Hi, we have just moved into a new home and the garden is in a really bad way. Theres a big tree and the routes are showing up all oner the lawn, theres no grass growth anywhere near it, just dry soil and moss. The other end of the garden has grass but is extremely dry. Is there anyway I could grow the grass back? If not, are there ways i can make it at least look presentable? Thanks in advance for your help
