  • No water coming out of the hot tap

The radiators weren't heating up properly. I bled the radiators (which didn't actually have any air in them, so were ok). I added some pressure (too much... so bled a radiator again till it was 1.4 bar (cold). Boiler played up so had to turn it off and on a few times. Heating was then able to come on (still only little heat so may possibly be sludge or something in radiators). Key thing, however, is that then, when I turned the hot tap on, nothing came out at all.... nor since. Pls can someone advise me! No hot water in during this cold snap is not fun. Particularly at the weekend! Thanks.

    Lowering ground level

Hi, I've had a damp survey done on a house I'm in the process of buying and it has recommended that the ground is lowered at the back of the house to prevent water splashing from the patio tiles onto the walls (and hopefully exposing the air bricks so that the sub floor is ventilated). I think the job would involve slicing off some of the patio tiles, digging down to the appropriate depth, laying down a membrane and then filling in with gravel. I'm not sure which is the most appropriate trade to do this - would it be something a general handyman could do?

    Independent advice on boilers

Can heating engineers offer independent advice on new boilers? Or are they tied to certain boiler brands? Many in our area seem to have brand logos on their vans and websites.

Can you paint eggshell straight over gloss?

I’ve started prepping the doors but not sure if I’ve done enough. Will eggshell stick to gloss or does it need primer or sanding first?

    Hot laid asphalt

I've got a largish terrace which has an asphalt roof, asphalt type boiled up from blocks in tar boiler. Presently part covered in GRP tiles. Tiles and asphalt have moved with heat and it looks very untidy. Terrace is laid over solid beam and block first floor so area needds to be water tight. Can tiles be removed and asphalt replced or is it better to remove both and relay with something else.
