Sounds like the cord got stuck as the switch mechanism got a little overused. It will need replacing. Should not be expensive."

If you gently pull it down and slightly stretch the cord (but not too much) then let it spring back in this may re-engage the spring mechanism. If this does not work then a new pull cord is required."
