"Turn off your stop tap and open up your taps down stairs and let drain. Please remember if cutting into any heating pipes those are on a separate system and will still contain water."

"The smartest way is to if possible turn off the main stop cock which is located outside the property most likely it's a water meter so easy to turn. However an older property maybe it's seized also in side the property. More often them not there should be your main stop cock most cases it's located under the kitchen sink but depends what you intend to do as there is water inside the pipe's.. taps bath basin hot water cylinders etc all need to be drained down if you for example just want to change a bath or sink there could be local isolation values near the item the hot and cold water tanks have gate values or stop cocks near them as well"

"If you have a combination boiler, you can simply turn it off from the mains stopcock which is either situated in the kitchen usually underneath the kitchen sink or failing that outside of the property under a cap in the pavement."

"Isolate from the water meter in the road & internal stopcock"

"Turn your stop cock (mains water shut off valve) sometimes located under the sink in the kitchen, once turned fully turn your cold tap on and if no water comes out then your COLD water is isolated, however if you have a combo boiler then your hot water will also be isolated so you can carry out work on both hot and cold water pipes"
