Hi, I live in a Victorian ground floor flat where I like to create an open plan kitchen and living room on what's currently my master bedroom since it has a backdoor to the garden. To do this, I'd need firstly to turn down the current division between the kitchen and this master bedroom, in addition to get rid of the existing master bedrooms ensuite. All these walls are dry walls so get rid of the existing kitchen units and the walls shouldn't be complicated. The height of this potential new area of the house is 2.15m however there's a wooden suspended floor with a crawling space below of around 1m height if I were to replace this suspended joists and insulate/dump proof the very bottom of the cellar, I'd be changing the height to around 3m which is a huge improvement. Said this, I'm aware that maybe the cost that this would involve could mean that it doesn't worth it since I'm not planning to live in this house more than 5 years, so all I'm trying to achieve is to add value to the property and know the costs in advanced to work out how to proceed. Many Thanks, Juan
Hi there, I have a condensation issue on my window frame caused by a non insulated metal building curtain frame. I wanted to ask if i could stop the damp appearing by insulating and then covering over with plasterboard? Many thanks.
Do I need planning permission to have a log cabin constructed? And if so, what is involved in the process? Does permitted development depend on factors such as the scale and type of log cabin? Thanks for your time.
Hoping to buy a Victorian ground floor flat in London which is very small. Agent recommended a side return on the kitchen, how would I begin with this please? The size of the current kitchen is 5.70 x 3.05M and I would be adding along the side, the space to add is approx. 5.7 X 2.00M
Can you paint sectional garage doors? And if so do they require special paint or/and must it be done by a professional?
I have an old chimney and it hasn’t been used in I’d say about fifteen years now. I suddenly thought that for this winter, I’d like to have a chimney fire again for warmth. Is there any reason I should be concerned in using a chimney after so long? Is there a risk that dangerous substances have built up and will fill the air if I used a chimney after so many years? It’s just been on my mind and there’s still a while to go until the cold winter months, so I figured it would be good to find out first!
I've noticed there are shortages in certain industries right now (as of June 2022). Just wondering, are there any construction industries or trades with shortages of professionals right now? Or are there some that suffer from shortages in the near future that homeowners should be aware of?
How do sectional and roller garage doors differ? Which are more durable in your view? Thanks :)
How much will it cost to have the chimney stack on my house replaced? I am looking to find out both the labour and supply costs. Is this a quick job or will it take more than a day? Thanks
Do you have any tips for keeping my costs down for having a conservatory built without reducing quality?
