Ask your QuestionWhat are the arguments for and against having my basement converted into a functional room?
Asked by Pete on 18th May 2022"Hi! Hope it will be useful.
They can be converted into a habitable, usable space for anything from an extra bedroom, a TV room, kids’ playroom or even a home office.
Another bonus to a basement conversion is that you often don’t need planning permission to convert one.
But before that you need to contact a Damp proofing specialist, to assess the situation with your basement.
It will be to waterproofing the basement.

"Biggest headache with basement conversion is damp proofing it properly and head space these are the most expensive part of basement work. The rest is relatively straightforward its stud insulate the walls it takes shape"

On the downside, mold and condensation can compromise the newly created room walls, ceiling, floors, and woodwork, however, this can be controlled with an effective tanking/damp proofing system combined with good ventilation and general maintenance.
Hope this helps."
