What's the Cons and Pros of being a apprentice Bricklayer.
Can you please recommend a good supplier of NHL Lime 2 or 3.5 for use in traditional brick laying. Ideally I would like to locate a supplier in Scotland.
How to mix mortar? Is this something that a DIY enthusiast should do and can I do it safely?
I’m hoping to have a set of steps built into my garden from my back door which was previously a window (so no previous steps were in place). Height about meter or slightly less from ground level. I’m not wanting brick finish, I have some slabs which I would like to use if possible. How much would I need to budget? Which trades would I need?
Are there any qualifications or certificates a bricklayer should have to be competent at building a small extension?
Hi, I was wondering about the logistics of opening up a bricked up fireplace. This will purely be decorative so the chimney won't need to be opened, just the fireplace itself so that an antique surround can be inserted. - I was wondering if this is likely to need any sort of planning approval? - How long it would usually take to open up a fireplace? - Rough ballpark of how much it should cost? Many thanks
I am having some paving laid for a pergola. The paving on one side has a raised flower bed - the back is a garage wall and other side is grass. The builder suggests leaving a gap between the paving and the raised bed and walk around 6 inches and to fill with decorative stone - is this better than butting up against everything like the rest of the paving around the house?
I am currently planning my garden design, I want to brick over the current concrete paths so that new paths will all be uniformed with the exsisting paths. I can't afford to do all the paths at once, so want to make sure that when I do the paths, the borders, lawn area and patio are all at the same height as it needs to be wheelchair friendly. So my question is how much height do I need for bricks on top of concrete? Guessing its just sand then the bricks and then sand in the gaps but not sure the deph of base sand needed. Any advice welcome. Thank you.
We are looking at having our wall rebuilt, our understanding is that for very damp areas / north facing that engineering bricks would be the most durable act like glass when water hits / sits on them. Current wall has facing bricks all blown through frost and are saturated black colour. What are the key differences please? Any advice welcome. Thanks
Could you explain to me what the term thermal lag means?
