    • Conservatory to extension - foundation upgrade?

    Hi all, I'm considering buying a house with a large (5x5m) conservatory. The grand plan would be to convert the conservatory into a 'proper' extension - brick walls, tiled roof etc. I've read people on this forum saying "yes, if the foundations are adequate, check this by digging a pilot hole". My qu is - if the foundations are inadequate, can they be 'upgraded'? Is there much saving in converting a conservatory vs just building an extension from scratch? I'm looking to get a very rough feel for how much it would cost to convert a conservatory of this size to a 'proper extension'. Does not involve kitchen or bathroom work. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello. We completed the refurbishment of our new home 15 months ago including some new circuits and all new electrical plugs, and light switches. It is ex-council property. We just found out that the electrical system is unsafe and could cause electrocution as there is no earthing in some of the circuits. We have now run out of time and money to do a new wired system and are wondering what direction to take. I am pretty nervous to live in the property considering we have a 5yo daughter. What alternative options could I consider?

    New CU for Garage and potential EV charger in future

    Hi There I am looking for some advice regarding having power run to my separate garage. Firstly I just wondered if its possible to have a new CU installed in my garage which is connected directly to the electric meter rather than connecting this to the existing CU. The reason for this is that the electric meter outside is within 5 meters of the garage and running a cable from the existing CU would be difficult as it is located near the center of the house and would struggle to get an outdoor cable to it without significant work. Secondly, would I be able to have an EV charger connected to this new garage CU or would that also need another feed from the meter. I will of course get a qualified person to perform the job if I go ahead but just looking into whats possible at the moment. Thank you!

    How risky is it to leave an upstairs bedroom open when no one is home during the day time? Do burglars try and enter upstairs windows very often or is this an unlikely occurrence? The bedrooms can get very warm during the day especially in the summer months unless a window is kept open.
