  • Avoiding headaches when painting

I’d like to perform a DIY paint job. However, I do sometimes get headaches when working with paint. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? Is this a sign that I should simply avoid undertaking paint jobs by myself? In this case, should I just hire a professional? If I wear a mask, could it prevent the headaches from occurring or is it better to avoid it anyway? It’d be great to get some guidance on this area as I’d really like to get some paintwork done soon around the house.

How straightforward is it to remove a chimney breast if chimney stack already removed

Am trying to ascertain how difficult and rough idea of cost to remove a chimney breast. The chimney stack, which was on a flat roof, has already been removed and new roof laid. The room in question is directly below this flat roof. There are two flats below, one on first floor and the other on the ground floor - we are on the top.

Can I move the water cylinder to the attic?

I own a top floor apartment with an attic. All electric with a large cold-over-hot water cylinder and pump in the hotpress. I need to move the water cylinder and pump, in order to convert the hotpress into a soundproof booth. We'd like a new cylinder too, since the one we have only provides enough hot water for 1/3 of a bathful. It is probably very unwise to mount a cylinder on the joists, as they are not thick enough. There are blockwork walls at both ends of the attic. Could a horizontal cylinder be mounted on a blockwork wall safely, if the right fixings and brackets are drilled far enough in?

55in TV wall mounted on plasterboard wall

I have a 55in Oled TV I'm wanting to mount on my wall. The mounted wall is a plasterboard wall. The TV weight according to specs listed on Samsung website is 16kg and the mounted bracket is 2kg. Would a plasterboard wall be strong enough to hold this type of weight if studs can't be located?

    Peeling paint on bathroom ceiling

The paint is from the ceiling of my bathroom. This is mostly above the bath and shower area, the rest of the room is ok. I think it is because it is a new-build and contractors have just put cheap paint directly onto the plaster and not primed it. Would I need to peel all the paint off and start from scratch, or can I just scrape it off in the affected area, prime that area and then paint over the entire ceiling with new paint?
