  • Power to garage

Hi, My garage has what appears to be a partially and likely badly completed electricity supply carried out by previous owner. There's a consumer unit with breakers fitted in the garage which is wired to several lights and plug sockets. I don't see any indication that this is connected to the house and so has no supply. There is an armoured cable coming from the consumer unit and out the garage roof. However, it goes back into the garage and is badly spliced to a old lawnmower cable. I think the intention by the previous owner was to plug this armoured cable into a socket in the kitchen to supply the garage. (Could be wrong but that's what it looks like.) What would be required to make this safe and functional? Thanks

    Disrupted ditch work outside home

There’s a ditch across the way from my home and someone used to come by and clear it out every so often. But suddenly it’s no longer happening. Do you know why this might be? Is it to do with council? Might it have something to do with covid and the disruption its caused to operations, etc.? What other reason might it be?

    Steel beam for loft conversion

I’m in the process of getting a loft conversion and the structural engineer has sent me the drawings and the steel beam size that he has proposed to be used is 203 x 203 x 46 kg/m UB. Is this a common size or not, cause I’ve looked online for a steel beam of this size and I’m being told this size comes as a column not a beam. Just want some clarification on this.

suggestions on how reuse carpets after having them removed and any risks

Are there any interesting and helpful DIY ideas as to what I can do with old carpet? I’m having my carpet in the living room replaced with hardwood flooring but it would feel like a waste to just have the carpet thrown away. Any suggestions/ideas as to what I could with the carpet? Are there any health risks associated with using carpet that’s been on the floor for so long, especially regarding the underside of the carpet?
