How far should a kitchen extractor fan be from cupboards?

We're looking at buying a new house, but there seems to be barely any gap between the extractor fan and the cupboards. What should this be?

There is no need for a gap between a wall cupboard and an extractor it's the height and distance from the hob that is important the extractor needs to be 750mm above a gas hob and 650mm above an electric hob. The cabinets must be 100 mm from the hob horizontally so if the hob is 600mm then the gap between the cupboards should be 800 minimum centrally over the hob. So if the extractor is 800mm there will be no gap

650mm–750mm for gas and 550mm–700mm for electric/induction as a guideline, but each individual hob will come with a recommendation in its user guide.

I have only ever seen one kitchen catch fire, that was a gap of around 600mm from a gas hob (thankfully, not my install)
