Are there any downsides to installing a complete smart security system from a kit? So, one including a doorbell with camera, indoor cameras, motion sensors and alarm with keypad.

There is no harm, so long you are fine with the outcome of your work. If it involves electrical connection then you got to be competent and comfortable doing that.

However, there are a few downsides to consider:

They rely heavily on Wi-Fi, so performance can drop if the connection is poor
Batteries need regular charging or replacing

Honest answer is fit a professional system and avoid DIY as most of it is rubbish and not even insurance approved
