UPVC door lock - inside handle up, outside still opens it!

Pushing the door handle upwards, would normally stop the door opening from outside from what I understand. This does not seem to be the case. Is the a lock issue or something else?

    Flat roof issue with neighbours

Hi, we are currently renovating our house (bought 3 years ago )and building a extension to our kitchen (build notice/permitted development). Part of this involves replacing the current grp roof ( which has failed and leaks ). We are semi detached and our flat roof backs on to our neighbours flat roof on the party wall. Their roof is currently 6 inches higher than ours and the joint laps over our roof . We spoke to our neighbours yesterday and informed them of our intention to replace and raise our roof level to give us a little more head room in the new kitchen. They have said that we cannot do this as they a have a lifetime guarantee on their roof and that is if we alter the overlap it will invalidate their guarantee. Is this true? Also do they have the right to refuse permission? Finally as we are intending to raise the roof, would this come under the scope of a third party wall notice? Thanks in advance

    Loft insulation

I have a bedroom which is part of an extension with 3 outer walls. The room Is freezing and I have cut a hole in the ceiling to see if there is loft insulation up there. There is 150mm, however they have placed it over the joists not in between them, meaning there is a gap between the ceiling plasterboard and insulation. Would this be the cause of the room being so cold? Will cold air from the eaves circulate in this space and cause the cold?

Garden Room Electrics - Part P

I have recently had my Garden Room (one new circuit added and consumer unit in garden room) connected to my house (around 10m away) - I have been provided with a Condition Report and Certificate for Minor Works. I am told by the electrician that these works are not classed as 'notifiable' and therefore I have not been provided with a Building Regulation Part P Certification. Please can I have opinions? Thanks

    Replacing a Flat Felt Roof

Hi, We have a leak coming through to our living room ceiling from the flat roof/terrace above. The terrace is currently covered with felt and water pools. We have had a number of trades come around to quote to resurface the terrace, most have said they wouldn't replace it with anything else other than fibre glass which we can't afford. One company has suggested removing the felt, adding a bitumen layer, PVA and then self-levelling compound with a 10mm drop/slop so the water drains off. Around the edge of the terrace they will install edge panels with waterproof sealant. Does this sound like a suitable fix as I'm nervous about paying the money to find its not fit for purpose at a later date. Many thanks Nic

    Flashing around chimney

Is it good practice to fit step and cover flashing to go over plain profile tiles (Terreal clay) rather than use traditional method using soakers and flashing not showing over tile?
