  • advice of painting over mould in a spare room

If I have a surface that I’d like to paint over, can painting over mould kill it off or does it need to be fully removed before I move on to repainting my walls and ceiling? It's the spare room in question and mould has grown quite a lot. It looks awful and we’d like to get rid of it as soon as possible. I thought I would ask whether mould can simply be painted over and ‘suffocated’ if you’d like or do we need to get rid of it first? I’m planning to repaint these surfaces either way as they’re in need of an update.

    Accent lighting ideas

What is accent lighting? What are some examples of accent lights and where can I buy them? Are these the sorts of lights that I can fit DIY or will I need to higher a professional light installer? Thanks in advance.

Patio edges far away from the wall

My builders did the paving stones patio, edges fixed in the mortar. However, they didn't put the edging aligned with the house but 10-20cm away from the wall (different distance in different places). I'm worried that in case of rain it's going to fill with water. It seems to me like they squared it so it was easier for them to lay it and they don't have to cut it. They say that's the reason it's supposed to be done, but no logical explanation. I'm not a specialist, but is there any other reason why it was done this way?

    Sanding or Planing

I have a raised bed made of railway sleepers (it's been there years). It seems to have moved slightly and the garden gate now catches and can't be opened without real force. Should I sand or plane the railway sleeper? Or the gate?

    Advice on system boilers

Hi there, I’m wondering what is the best system boiler on the market? Or which are some of the best system boilers? What are the benefits of a system boiler? What can I expect specifically to improve if I were to buy a more premium quality system boiler as opposed to a regular or budget option? Thanks!

Do I need to fill an area of ceiling where paint has been peeling?

Hi, I'm just sorting out my bathroom ceiling where some paint has been peeling off above the shower. I've scraped off the peeling paint and will be sealing it. Do I need to then put a layer of filler over the area (which is quite big) before putting the top coat on? I've seen one video on youtube where a decorator did put filler on and another where he didn't.

Cost for fitting a sink and shower

Hi, we are in the process of buying our new home and I am planning on converting a room (a converted garage with attached toilet (without shower, just toilet and sink) into a studio flat. I was wondering how much (and if it is even possible) it would cost to install a sink in the room and a shower in the toilet? As I note, there is already a toilet fitted but it does not have a shower. Presumably there would have to be drainage in place already which could help in these fittings? On a side note, is it necessary to have building regulation for this? Thanks a million!
