  • What is the best smart thermostat?

Hive or Nest seem to be the top contenders but what’s the difference? Can I get some real opinions from people who install them and what makes one better than the other?

How to turn my balcony into a garden?

I don’t need grass or anything but I’d like to make it more homely rather than just concrete. How can I make the space look nice?

Would building a new swimming pool need planning permission?

Hi all I am looking into getting a new outdoor swimming pool installed in my garden soon – it will be a reasonable distance away from the house and be well within my boundaries. Will I need planning permission for this? Will I need to meet any other regulations/permissions? Any info would be appreciated!

How much do waste removal services with skips cost?

Hello, Due to some major renovation work we have planned for our home, we will need a waste removal service to get rid of the junk being cleared out. We would ideally like to hire a skip for the waste with removal service after the renovation is finished. Does anyone have any estimates of the costs for hiring a waste removal service? Do most waste removal companies provide skips as part of the service? Are there any other costs involved?

How easy will it be to remove wallpaper for an entire room?

I have a room that we plan to remove all the wallpaper from, as part of the room’s redecoration. We are planning to remove it by peeling away from the corners, using a damp cloth where required to loosen up any stubborn areas. As precautions, we will cover up the floors nearby and the switches/electrical sockets in case of any accidents in the process. Is this the simplest method for us to try or is there any quicker, more efficient methods we could try instead? Any ideas would be welcome!

    Electrical certification

Can a registered/qualified electrician let another person who he claims is an electrician to do an electrical job in my property and self certify the electrical job when he was not supervising the friend/apparently an electrician the whole time but only in the morning telling him what has to be done and returning hours later when his friend has finished the electrical job? Also, he refuses to provide me any information if his friend is qualified and registered as a qualified electrician to do the job? Thank you.

    Soft plaster ceilling

I live in a new build block completed 10 months ago. Recently I've noticed the plaster ceilling has buldges, long hair line cracks, sign of shrinkage (can see the suspended ceilling metal beams coming through, and most of all several areas in the ceilling are soft to touch, ie I can dent the plaster with my finger. There is no water leakage to be seen. Any ideas as to the possible causes and best way of remedial works please?
