Turning scaffold boards into shelves

What steps do I need to take to turn old scaffold boards into shelves? I've been offered some boards but I'm not sure how to make them look nice. Ideally, I want to use them as open shelves in the kitchen.

"Hi, I highly recommend either buying or hiring an orbital sander, go over with slightly finer grit each time until it’s back to the grain and all defects are gone. Then apply any type of sealant/wax/paint etc good luck"

"If you use old scaffold planks 8 would recommend storing them inside for a while before making shelves out of them
You would be better buying brand new dry boards"

"It depends how rustic you want them to look. There's lots of brackets you can use which can help them to look cool. Also I would lightly sand them and stain them."

"Depending on the finish surface you want you can plane it smooth then sand it down. Equally you can sand it down with a sander to a smooth finish"
