Cost of replacing a staircase balustrade

Question

Ours is the original 1970s job with those chunky spindles, we want oak and glass instead. Does the whole lot need ripping out or can they work with the existing newel posts? Rough idea on price would help

As long as the newel posts are in good condition you can use them instead of replacing, without knowing the pitch and size and an accurate site visit and measure process can vary

You can keep existing newel posts but you will need new base rail and hand rails. But some times pending how the spindles cone out without damage you may be able to keep existing handrail and base as you can get a filler piece. And have it re painted then measure up for your glass.

It depends; if it's just the staircase with a diminished handrail ( this is a handrail that finishes on the underside of the apron lining), £1470.00, subject to site survey.

First of all, the following needs to be established:

Length of balustrades.
Stair balustrade length - if also required.
Required height of new balustrade.
What length of each glass panel are you looking to have

In terms of installation, you will need an independent surveyor to inspect the supporting structure for the new glass panels (as they will be default need to be toughened glass - capable of withstanding the average humans weight).

The reasoning is more that the toughened glass will need the correct level of support for it to remain safe, rigid, and compliant with the legalities, such as registering only CE registered products in your property deeds etc.

Lots fo questions, I know, but valid for your own safety, protection, financial protection and property integrity.

We made to size balustrades and staircases prices varies and can reach horrendous prices. Standard 3.5m balustrade and 1.5m landing no newels all in pine may cost from 380£ materials and from 350 £ labour

labour 750/1000£
thats vary a lot as some people want string cover with oak veneer where others like to have cost low and change handrails without extra veneer and newel replacement typically looking for 2k average cost
Pine and oak components have price difference 1:2

Original can be worked with but cist difficult over phone as difference in glass and finish will determine price defenetly need to allow  1500 +chris Renov8
