Should I glue and nail a new stair spindle in place?

Do stair spindles need gluing and nailing in place or is there a wood glue that's strong enough to hold a spindle on its own?

"Personally I would use screws. But drill pilot holes first, sink the screw and then fill, sand & paint."

"Always is better to glue it and pin it but if you have infield between spindles pins are enough. If you use a nail gun make sure the pins are not too long."

"Pins are sufficient enough with small dots of pva to prevent from rattling as wood dry, not too much as if needs replacing it much easier to do so, but if you want just glue pva will do the job."
