"Yes you need to make sure you start with a good primer I recommend acrylic water based primer, then two undercoats of recommended dulux I would go oil based with this and then again 2 top coats of oil based gloss"

"Primer is the 1st coat on bare wood or metal. Gloss is the finish coat so that can’t really be compared. Gloss as a finish coat is quite durable but tends to yellow after a while, satinwood would be my preferred finish"

"Primer you wouldn't class as durable as it is the base coat, satin eggshell and gloss are durable but if I was going for one it would be satin I find that is the most durable."

"Hi.
Primer is a base coat and is not durable enough to be used as a finish coat. You would use primer on a new unfinished surface. Gloss is a finish/final coat."
