Best way to cover oil-based undercoat in storage? 5L tin

Tin lid is broken - best way to store/cover over oil-based undercoat? I do not want the paint skinning over or spoiling.

"Hi,
If the tin lid is broken, a good way to store oil-based undercoat is to transfer the paint into a smaller airtight container — ideally one that you can fill almost to the top. This reduces the amount of air left inside, which helps prevent skinning.

Before sealing the lid, place a piece of cling film over the opening — it adds an extra barrier and helps keep the paint fresh for longer.

Hope that helps!"

"Cover over top with a bag ( food bag is a good one) or cling film then put lid back on then will seal with no air going in."

"Best thing would be to use a Tupperware tub with lid and just transfer from the Tin"

"if you have empty large jars you can pour into jars or secure with foil and tape well around it so that no air gets in"

"Don’t store the paint in plastic.
Transfer the paint to something made of glass or metal. The oxygen seal of metal and glass in better than that of plastic. The solvents and chemicals in oil base will eventually break the plastic down. This is why oil base paint always comes in a metal tin"

"Best way to transfer to tin with lid.

Alternative covers cling film and tape around edge to ensure air tight.
A plastic bag could also work with tape, again making sure there's no air gaps.

Hope this helps

"Cling film will keep it secure and fresh for atleast a few months. Just make sure it is covered tightly"

"Your cover it up with plastic sheet or foil so it will block air going in"

"Transfer the paint to an airtight glass or metal container filled close to the top. To prevent the paint from skinning over, pour a thin layer of white spirit on top of the paint (this creates a barrier against air)"
