Painting external front door

I need to paint my front door. Should the current paint be stripped first? Is there anything that will help me do this? Also if you could recommend some paint it would be greatly appreciated. Regards.

"Hi Luke.
I’m assuming that you have a wooden door that needs painting. If the paint has not started to flake off or bubble and is well adhered to the wood, then sanding with a medium grit glass paper will create a sufficient key to paint on.
If the original paint is flaking off then unfortunately you will have to remove it all to best of your ability. Electric sander and a scraper where it’s loose. Bare wood will then need to be primed before painting.
All the dominant brands of paint are good quality these days, I.e Dulux Weather Shield or Ronseal Weatherproof. Sandtex do quite a range of colours too. It may sound obvious but make sure you buy EXTERNAL wood paint. I would always recommend solvent based paint even though there are non solvent external paints available.
Normally I would have a look in a DIY store but that’s not possible currently but I’m sure a delivery option is possible.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards

"Yes the existing paint on the door should be stripped first and you could use white spirit to strip it."

"Nope if paint is not flaking. Just need to sand smooth for new paint to bond. If bad condition then stripe and fill"

"Sand down the door, clean away sanding dust, paint door with under coat and gloss the exterior with oil based paint."

"I would recomend removing as much paint as possible with paint stripper or heat gun if you can't do this sand it as best as you can then use external paint for the doors found in most diy stores"

"No don’t strip the door before painting it. You need to sand it down so the new paint will take to it. Either use a exterior gloss or satin."

"You don’t need to strip the paint from the door only if it needs sanded do this and use external wood paint easy to do"
