Is it expensive to hire someone to custom build furniture?

Hello everyone. I’ve seen these custom built bunk beds for my kids but I’m wondering if its cheaper or better to purchase ready made furniture or to hire a carpenter to build them? What will be more cost effective?

"Hello, there can be many variables involved with furniture construction that can affect cost and quality. In my opinion to hire a carpenter will be more expensive but you can specify the dimensions you want and build quality discussed inline with budget."

"It is dependent on whether you are happy with the designs available to buy ready made or if you would like to design your own bed and maybe decorate to suite your child's preferences.

I would say if you choose a good carpenter you would get a better quote from the tradesman using the cheapest possible materials they can get away with."

"an honest answer to this is yes. There's a lot of skill and labour that goes into bespoke furniture. My advice would be if someone is willing to do it for a cheap price then don't expect a quality product. Do your homework and definitely get several prices"

"In my opinion I'd go with pre made furniture. It will be quicker and cheaper. Less dust and rubbish."

"Morning Carole,
It depends on the material used and if the beds are a theme ie a Princess bed.If you buy good quality ready made beds they can be as expensive as custom built.

Custom built allows you to choose design and material. It will fit your room and you can discuss with the joiner exactly what you require.
Also consider how long these beds will be required to last.If you have time speak to a joiner and discuss your project. That is what my clients do with me.
Hope this helps. Stewart"

Otherwise cheaper to buy, but get some quotes !"

"The cost of hiring someone is really down to how much furniture you have. Everyone will charge different. Most joiners will probably tell you to get a handyman"
