Fitting of new door handles on 2 interior doors

The spring in the tubular latches have gone in 2 of my door handles. I have purchased nice new handles but unsure of what size replacement latches to get and have zero DIY skills.

"If you just wish to change the handles? That is possible to do ‘in itself’ and the new handles will come with their own springs inside [new] anyhow - Then again if you DO wish to change the mortise barrel/ lock also.. Then yes, you take the existing handles off [undo the screws that hold them into the door] - Then measure from the very end face of door edge, to the centre spindle that will now be exposed.. - & That will give you the measurement you want. Then take it (&/or the Measurement) to a hardware shop/merchants.. And they will find you the right length mortise tube & catch. Good luck."

"Replace using identical latches, take original to diy store as anything different may cause more issues!"

"Hi, you just need to take the old one out, or measure from edge of door to centre of spindle hole. Which can be seen once the handle is removed. Standard sizes are 44 or 56 mm from edge of door to centre of spindle hole."

"You should measure your latch size from the edge of the door to the centre of the door handle spindle, hope this helps.

"To choose the correct size tubular latch for your door, you need to consider both the overall latch length and the backset measurement. The most common overall latch sizes are 64mm and 76mm. The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the spindle hole (where the handle or knob will be attached)."
