How to fit a door frame

Question

We're replacing an internal door and the existing frame is too wide for the new door. How do you size and fit a door frame from scratch? Worth attempting as a DIY job?

normally 2 sizes of frame 2 foot 6 or 2 foot 9 buy te one foe the size of the door not being rude but not a job for a novice loads of headaches and swearing lol

Remove old door and door lining. Timber pack each side to the desired size. Remember to allow space for a new door lining. Fitvtge new lining, fit new door, You also need to allow for plasterboard surrounding the opening.
Depending on you're skill level as a DIYer, there are quite a few different skilsets required. Probably plastering and carpentry. I would suggest hiring somone who has a varied skill set. Would probably be a dats work depending on existing openings state of repair

Everything is worth giving ago yourself as long as you have the tooling and confidence. There is many tutorials on YouTube which will be easy to follow along. If it’s to wide you will be putting the frame in the existing opening and framing around it to suit.

If you can’t buy the right width door frame from a suppliers we use a circular saw with a guide set the guide to thickness needed plus 4mm this gives you room for movement either side of plaster isn’t perfectly plumb.

Say the frame is 760mm the closest door for example would be a 762 door and this would mean planing 2mm of the door and scribing. I would not advise attempting this job yourself if you dont know what your doing

Hi 
Measure your new door in feet and inches. internal doors  are usually 2'3" .... 2'6" ... 2'9" etc .go to Covers,  Jewsons , Travis Perkins  
B&Q as last resort .
Ask for a door lining pack to fit your size .
Glue and screw the head so the legs making sure all pieces are flush. 
Come up from the bottom about 9" , neatly brace the 2 legs so they are parallel top to bottom. Add  small brace from hanging side leg to  middle of the head . Use your square in this corner to achieve 90° then fix this brace... 
Hava a nice cup of tea then take your old frame out gently and insert your nice new parallel Square solid frame and fix. Fix the hanging sides first plumb edge and face ! Repeat procedures for the other leg.
Make sure you're frame is "in wind". Do this by looking down one edge of your frame in one room I'm making sure it lines up with the opposite frame  edge of the other room.. . 
Carefully hang the door then  have a lie down lol you've done 👍.

Before looking at the frame, you best be sure you bought the correct door. 9/10 the door you buy should need trimming, best bet with doors is to buy one thats bigger than the dimensions of your frame. If you buy one smaller, then it's useless in a sense...

Best option could be to get the closet size door (wider than frame) if you can't get exactly what fits,then trim in down to fit in the frame,check door manual for maximum trimming allowed 
If you still want to fit same door, measure the door and frame,see how much gap is there to be filled,lets say 6cm(60mm) get 2 lengths of wood 3cm (30mm) thickness and width according to your frame,stick them on both sides of frame,then use new beads as door stop or use existing ones if you could

Measure the doors width and height, make a door frame that would suit the door, then fit the door with hinges, fit a piece of timber to the bottom legs so they don’t wobble about fit the door into the whole fix the legs and measure and level,
Then put the door into the hole then fix the hinges, put one screw in each hinge then fix them in place, then put the other screws in, fit the stops , fit handle lock etc
