How to finish the edge of a slate roof

Seeing different approaches online but not sure what’s correct. How do roofers finish off the sides of a slate roof properly?

"It depends, they can be filled with mortar , you can use dry verges ( plastic ) also they can over hang a barge board flush so there are several options"

"Really depends on what you want, can go traditional with mortar and a pointed gable or there are several dry verge systems suitable for slate which look between ok and really good. The more modern systems (dry) are maintenance free as an added benefit"

"Never use mortar on slates. Looks bad and will crack and fall of quick. The best is to over hung them like 40mm from barge board or use plastic dry verge systems."

"To finish the edge of a slate roof properly, the slates should be cut neatly and allowed to overhang slightly so rainwater runs off cleanly. Traditionally, roofers would bed the edge in mortar, but nowadays most people go for a dry verge system because it lasts longer, doesn’t crack, and needs less maintenance. At the bottom edge, the slates should sit into the gutter with a small overhang, and at the top they’re finished off with ridge tiles, either mortar-bedded or a modern dry ridge system. The key thing is making sure the edges are watertight, tidy, and secure so the roof not only looks right but also lasts."

"We use a a cement bourd aprox 1 meter long 150mm wide and couple mm thick
This goes under Barton flush with slate then motor it in with cement to give a nice smooth finish"
