How effective is colour matching paint effective?

How similar do paint products tend to be when colour matching? Are the differences actually noticeable in reality between a budget-friendly option and the more costly alternative they resemble?

"Colour matches through Valspar at B&Q are very good if you take a sample needs to be at least 1 inch square
Last job I did I removed a a small piece of painted plasterboard to match colour and it turned out great"

"Why is it so hard to make touch-ups match? Turns out, it's all about watching the paint dry. Two painters can touch up the same wall at the same time, use paint from the same can and get completely different touch-up results"

"Normally most trade paint stores are very accurate but would recommend getting a tester pot first to ensure you’re happy……"

"Depending on what kind of paints I combine, there are also some exact brands of paint that really do not have a big difference, only in price, those can be used, I recommend Leyland
or dulux are relatively cheap and high quality paints. I hope my answer is of some use to you and if you want to combine the two to obtain an exact color, it would be the perfect combination."

"I get all my colour matches from brewers and they are usually pretty accurate but bare in mind you should always use the same store for repeat orders as each machine is calibrated differently resulting in a slightly different shade"

"Hi Greg, providing you can obtain a big enough sample of the original material, be it render , paint or fabric that you are trying to match the colour matching process at your local decorators merchant or DIY store should be able to get a 99.9% match"

"Hi go with your budget.. don't get me wrong there isn't any point goin to get 5 litre tub for 5 pounds as it will be pants.. but b n q paint is fine I've used farrel and ball and it's no different to dulux vynal matt.. but wen matching if they can't get the exact which is unlikely but just incase they will always get as close to it as they can and tbf it's never really that far off
Thanks

"2 things for me is they don't always match & quality, as I find not all paints spread the same. That's the short version"
