How effective are CCTV systems?

Does CCTV really deter burglars and if so to what extent? Do you have any stats on this I could check out, please? I’m a very factually oriented person so seeing the actual statistics would really help give me piece of mind if buying CCTV. Thank you.

"Hi Sharon,

A potential intruder is less likely to target a house with CCTV, let’s be honest, who really wants to see their face on camera. The same applies to intruder alarms, they are both great deterrents.

Regarding statistics I can’t find any other than statements, reporting the same.

We find it more the customers peace of mind once a system is fitted.

Hope this helps a little

Steve"

"Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems are indeed an effective deterrent against burglars and other crimes. In a 2012 study, over 400 incarcerated burglars were surveyed regarding what prompted them to select or ignore a particular target."
