We're thinking about getting a split air con unit for the bedroom. What size are the indoor units typically? I need to check if there's enough wall space above the window.

Typical indoor unit dimensions (wall-mounted “high wall”)
Width: 70–95 cm (most common)
Height: 25–32 cm
Depth (sticks out from wall): 18–25 cm
By capacity (rough guide)
Small bedrooms (≈ 2.0–2.5 kW / 7,000–9,000 BTU): often 70–85 cm wide
Medium rooms (≈ 3.5 kW / 12,000 BTU): often 80–95 cm wide
Larger units (≈ 5.0 kW / 18,000 BTU): can be 90–110+ cm wide
Clearance you should allow (important for “above a window”)
Even if the unit physically fits, installers usually want some breathing room:
Above the unit: 10–15 cm minimum (some brands ask for more)
Left/right sides: 5–15 cm
In front: keep it unobstructed (curtains/pelmet can be an issue)
Also consider pipework exit (often out the right side) and a gentle fall for the condensate drain.
