Hairline ceiling crack

Noticed a hairline crack in a bedroom ceiling, dad, very elderly, says it has been there for years. Heating not always on even in cold weather. Think polyfilla would do the job and it needs to be done, am I right. Thanks. Podge

"This is ok as a quick fix, depending on what caused the crack. A more permanent repair would be more ideal"

"Ctacks in the ceilings come back eventually. Just filling with polyfiller is not the solution. Better stick skim/plastering tape in the crack through. Then fill with polyfiller or EsiFill. Aply filler at least 6-8 inches on both side of the skim tape. After it get dry smooth down a bit and aplly second coat of the filler. Then sand down and try to make a smooth finish. Hope you got your answer. Good luck"

"If this as been their years, if goes from one end of room to other, and is plasterboard, means their is a straight join on joists, needs under boarding"

"Any flexible filler will do. Alternatively you could use polycell Crack-Free Ceilings Smooth Matt to paint the ceiling if its a fine crack.. 2 birds.. 1 stone 🙂"

"If there's a carck, it's best to skim the full celling, scrim tape over the crack then re plaster, best way to get rid of the crack. Polyfilla won't solve the problem it will come straight back. Make sure thers no movements in celling, put few screws 10mm on each h side of crack to tie to celling joints."

"Hi it's best to cut back s existing skim on ceiling 2inchs.on each side of crack to plasterer board then put a couple of drywall screws into plasterboard then put on joint tape then skim to existing ceiling. Frank"
