Exposing a brick wall

We want to expose a brick wall in our home for a rustic feel. Will it need sealing? And will it make the room less thermally efficient?

"Exposing a brick wall might not be as easy as it sounds
If it has always been a wall that is plasterboarded it would never have built in a way an exposed wall would be built
It probably isn't face brickwork"

"Will probably need sealed if it’s exposed even if it’s inside gives it a nice glazed look aswell"

"The bricks will need to be brushed down and sealed. It also depends on the bricks that have been used as to the look it will give as originally it would have been built to have been covered. You may find it slightly colder but that would be more to touch."

"The answer is yes and yes. You will need to seal the wall especially with it being an interior wall, it helps contain any dust residues and really adds to the visual effect too. In terms of thermal qualities. The thicker the wall the more thermal it should be. Plaster definitely provides additional thermal insulation just how much is hard to say but you will lose something in heat retention, but unless it's a particularly cold room I wouldn't imagine what you lose would be quantifiable. Hope this helps."

"It come down to a few factors. I’d 100% seal it. Keeps dust levels down, and keeps it clean.
The other factor is, how well is the insulation behind the wall, new or old build property?
If old I would then get more insulation In the caverty, there a lot of companies that do this through injection so be something to think about. But either way, 100% seal the bricks"

"Yes best is to sealing as this would prevent loose sand and cement to fall out"

"yes, the brick work will need brushing down and sealing. it's not as hard as it may seem. and will not affect any thermal efference in the room at all"
