How much to convert a carport into a garage?

We've got an open carport at the side of the house and want it bricked up with a proper door on the front. Roughly what would that cost? Would we need planning permission?

"Good morning

£11/13,000 not really a lot to go off no measurements do you want the inside? Plastering electrics insulating the walls without seeing a job it’s hard to estimate but if you look around at £11/13,000.

You need to contact building control as you will need a building inspector to pass the work"

"Converting an existing carport into an enclosed garage would typically cost around £8,000–£15,000, depending on the size, foundations, brickwork, garage door, electrics and whether any structural alterations are required. Planning permission may not always be required, but this depends on the property, previous permissions and local restrictions. Building Regulations may also apply. It is best to check with the local planning authority and Building Control before starting, and have the existing structure inspected before obtaining a fixed quotation."

"Assuming:

Single-width carport (around 2.5–3m wide)
Brickwork to the front
New composite or uPVC front door
Foundations already in place

You'd typically be looking at:

Brickwork and foundations (if needed): £1,000–£2,000
Good quality composite front door fitted: £1,500–£2,500
Making good, insulation, plastering and finishes: £800–£2,000

Typical total: £3,500–£6,500 + VAT

If you also want:

Windows
Electrics
Internal insulation
Converting it into a habitable room

then you're more likely looking at £6,000–£10,000+ depending on the specification."
