"I work with oak so personally I’d use that as it would give a really good effect and you could also stain it to go darker also"

"A wooden futon frame (presumably double hinged, so that it forms a chair when not a bed) is a very simple construction.

It would take me about a day to make, including the time to get the wood.

Making the bespoke frame, with it varnished or lightly oiled but unpainted, I would quote £240 + materials (add about £60, unless you want to use oak, or a specialised wood/finish) + delivery. (I drop things off for free if they are local but this would depend where you live.)

I’d be surprised if anyone would do a decent job for less than £300+ delivery as this is based on £30 an hour for one x8 hour day, (£240) plus £60 for materials.

I know people charging £45 - £60+ an hour for this sort of thing though. Which would mean you might get quoted £420 (@£45 an hour + £60 for materials) or even £540 (@£60 an hour +£60 for materials.)

Just to note also - These rates are based on being situated well outside London. (I am based in Ludlow, Shropshire.)

Hope this helps. All the very best, from Richard."
