Cold and hot water pipes

Why must hot and cold water pipes never touch? How can it be ensured that they won't if work is taking place?

"Hot and cold pipes should be clipped anyway ,this stops them vibrating and .also if the hot pipes are getting to hot and there right next to cold then it also causes alot of condensation which then can cause mould and damp"

"Because the hot pipe can corse the cold water to warm up, hence why they should not be touching."

"The main reason it to prevent condensation if your in doubt an installation then get your contractor to provide pictures or chose a different contractor"

"Not only should hot and cold pipe work be kept separate, on horizontal runs, the hot pipe needs to be above the cold pipe so there is no transfer of heat to the cold supply. Ideally they should be a minimum of 50mm apart. There is no real danger as such but you don’t really want your cold water being warmed in the pipe and if they are close to each other they may cause noise"

"Because the cold pipe will cool down the hot water before it reaches the sink. Or the hot water can warm up the cold water before it reaches the sink."

"Spacer clips just clip together and pipes sit in them"

"Heat transfer, you could end up turning your cold in to warm water, such is not ideal at all"

"They can be fitted with double clips to separate them, cold pipe on the bottom, heat rises, , legionnaires disease can occur at certain temp, and its on your drinking water, if work is going on and there touching temporarily its ok, touching pipes can also be noisy"

"They usually are only a few mm apart as one can buy double clips for 15mm pipes and you can google search image these double clips .They keep the pipes a cm plus apart .
The main reasoning is Legionnaire,s disease .
Cold water should stay cold and if warmed up by a hot pipe then this raises the temperature of the water in the pipe .
One often hears about this problem in hospitals and bigger buildings .
Seldom heard of in domestic dwellings ."
