Can established shrubs be moved?

Is it possible to move established shrubs without killing them? I'd like to redesign the garden layout but there are some hefty shrubs that would need to be moved and it would be a shame to lose them.

"I if they are there for one to 3 years, I recommend not to move them because there’s a very big chance that they will die"

"Yes depending upon what they are , moving shrubs should be done in the middle of march or October remember to be careful with extraction of the roots , saying that the trunk is 4 inches in diameter the root span can be smaller than half a meter in some plants can be larger root span"

"If dug properly with a fair root ball on the bottom they do stand a chance."

"Hi Greg

Provided you dig out plenty if not all of the root ball, then well feed it once moved most shrubs are pretty resilient."

"Depending on the size of the shrub I would try dig around and under without disturbing the roots and move it with care"

"You can do this in winter months as most shrubs and trees are dormant at this time of year so wouldn’t be a problem, try and avoid cutting through the roots when moving them"

"Yes they can be , bit 1 depending on species annd weather depends when you can move them , as a rules most shrubs in this cold weather won't like being dug up and the ground is pretty hard.

2 you need to very carefully dig the shrubs out retaining as many roots as possible"

"So mature shrubs will respond to transplanting, however all must be moved in dormant season and a big a rootball as possible accompanies the plant"
