How much does a polytunnel cost?

I'm after a decent sized polytunnel for growing veg at home, say 3m by 6m. is it worth paying someone to put it up or is it a two person DIY job?

For one three metres by six metres, you've got two options:
 • Budget versions (thin steel frame, basic plastic cover) cost around £130 to £250. They're fine, but the plastic cover usually needs replacing every two to four years.
 • Better quality ones (stronger galvanised frame, tougher cover) cost £800 to £1,500 and will easily last fifteen years or more.
On fitting it yourself: yes, one this size is a genuine two-person job. One person holds the hoops while the other fixes them. Give yourselves a full day, and pick a calm day if you can — wrestling the plastic cover on in wind is the worst part. Paying someone to put it up usually costs an extra £200 to £400, so if you're reasonably handy, doing it yourselves is worth it. Just make sure the frame is anchored down well so it doesn't take off in the first storm.

For a 3m x 6m polytunnel, it’s definitely possible as a DIY job, but having someone experienced put it up can save a lot of time and make sure it’s properly secured and tensioned. Installation cost will depend on the type of polytunnel and ground conditions, so I’d recommend getting a couple of quotes locally.

I would suggest 2 people putting the polytunnel up, as can be abit fiddly on your own, and they can vary from anywhere between £100-£500

I installed an Outsunny 4mx3m polytunnel in my own garden two years ago. The installation of the tunnel is a two person diy job, the key to it lasting is making sure it is built on a base to cope with the weather (fixed down) and the sides are buried or extremely secure.

My polytunnel is directly secured to black jacked sleepers with battens securing the sides to the sleepers.

Installation is usually a 2-person job, particularly when putting the frame up and securing the cover. If you're paying someone to install it, I'd budget another £200–£500+ for labour, depending on the ground preparation and how complicated the setup is. A landscaper's typical day rate is around £230.

So realistically, I'd budget around £500–£1,000+ all-in for a decent 3m × 6m setup. If you've got two people who are reasonably DIY-savvy, though, it should be manageable yourself.

For a 3m x 6m tunnel, I’d be looking at around £400 for the installation, depending on the ground and exactly what’s involved. That would be for putting the frame up, securing it and fitting the cover.

If the customer is buying the materials you are really only going to pay for the labour on the trades people 2x people for 1 day is roughly £200 for the work to be carried out

I would say it’s a two person diy job myself, me and my partner have one ourselves we erected quite easily but I will say you will need to weight it down with something or possibly peg it down.
