    Upgrading an existing loft conversion

I've bought a house with a loft conversion that's very basic and not classed as a bedroom. I'd like to upgrade it to make it an extra bedroom, improving the window, insulation and heating. The access stairs are fine, but I probably need doors and alarms fitting too from what I've read. What's the first step I need to take to sort this out? Does it need an inspection or survey done?

    Preserving wooden gutters

I have old wooden gutters on my property. They are at a point where most would simply have them replaced, however, they’re extremely important to me as it's a family home and my grandfather built them by himself sixty years ago. So I am willing to pay more than most would to preserve these gutters as long as possible. What efforts can I have, even radical efforts to keep these gutters going for at least another say ten to fifteen years? At what point, do worn down gutters become a danger?

    Rescuing a poorly maintained hedge

We have a hedge that's grown wider rather than taller with most of the growth on the outer edges. I'm worried that cutting it back will make it look a bit sparse. Can it be remodelled or encouraged to grow more densely after cutting back?
