advice on driveways being harmful to dogs' feet

Is it true that driveways and similar surfaces are harmful to dogs’ feet? I’ve read a little on the subject and it does concern me as I have two border collies and especially with the way the weather’s been lately, I don’t want them burning their feet during the summer months. If it is true, what can I do to protect them? Is it best to only walk them in the evening when it's cool during the summer months? Is there anything else I can do, like a cream or product that I could add so that it wouldn’t hurt or damage their feet? Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Plants and carbon monoxide

Is there any possibility that an abundance of plants in a home could prevent carbon monoxide alarms from detecting a leak? I ask as I've read that some plants can absorb carbon monoxide and not just CO2. Is this anything to worry about?
