One of my smoke alarms is on its last legs. I am aiming to buy a new one very soon. Since my current alarm only lasted a couple of years, I'd like to know what types of brands of smoke alarms I should consider for a long-lasting alarm?

cost to repair Victorian brick wall

In the midlands. What's the likely estimate to repair a brick wall with many spalling/frost damaged bricks? The wall is 1st floor, houses the bathroom. Damage is just on the south facing wall which is the most exposed. Estimate it's about a 2mx3m area and at least half the bricks are blown, some badly some just going now. Pointing also missing in places. Realise cost is hard without seeing it, but is this hundreds or thousands?
