How can I go about testing whether my toilet is leaking? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, we recently moved into our current house. The bathroom has now an awful sewer smell. On inspection we found it to be coming from the shower drain (walk in shower - tiled floor). I lifted the grill and saw no water seal - no sitting pool of water - and it looks like the shower trap has been removed. Water flows directly down and so it looks like the smell is coming directly from the sewer. My newborn sleeps close by and so my wife is very worried now! However, I have no idea how to get this fixed/replaced as I can't find the brand name on any of the bathroom fixtures. Any help/advice hugely appreciated....
I've been burgled twice in two years. How likely is it I'm a target? And are there any security measures I can take that will bring down my home insurance again?
Hi all, I've just bought my first house and the bathroom is in great need of renovations. Theoretically, it's an old bathroom that needs a basic renovation. Basic taps, shower/bath, basin+pedastal etc everything in same place. No Plastering needed, no paint needed lino floor, pvc plastic 4 sheets needed. No fancy stuff or extras. My cheapest quote was £7,500 i got from bathroom businesses and it's over budget for me. I'm thinking about doing part of it myself, or contacting a sole trader. Could anyone give me a rough idea of how much that would cost? It's a small bathroom that literally only just about fits that stuff, very narrow. Thanks in advance
Hi My new dishwasher cable is to short. So I wish to convert the socket into a 13amp switch and connect mains cable from switch to new socket nearer to dishwasher. The dishwasher has a 13 amp plug attached. Is this OK to carry out.
Why would mould develop on the bottom of a bedroom wall? It’s on the wallpaper above the skirting board.
Where do you start when wallpapering a ceiling? And how do you decide which way the paper should run?
Hi, I was wondering about the logistics of opening up a bricked up fireplace. This will purely be decorative so the chimney won't need to be opened, just the fireplace itself so that an antique surround can be inserted. - I was wondering if this is likely to need any sort of planning approval? - How long it would usually take to open up a fireplace? - Rough ballpark of how much it should cost? Many thanks
I am having some paving laid for a pergola. The paving on one side has a raised flower bed - the back is a garage wall and other side is grass. The builder suggests leaving a gap between the paving and the raised bed and walk around 6 inches and to fill with decorative stone - is this better than butting up against everything like the rest of the paving around the house?
Just wondering what the best product is for cleaning a mantelpiece?
