Window frame replacement cost

Two of our uPVC window frames have cracked quite badly and are draughty. We're not looking to replace the glass, just the frames. Is that even possible and what does it cost?

"Hi the window frames will be quite old plus new frames can only fit 28mm glass units so it depends on on your glass thickness"

"In principle this is possible but by the time you have found a reliable fitter to complete, surveyed and find a fabricator to make ..

It would make more sense to order new windows and glass"

"Yes, it is possible to replace just the uPVC window frames while retaining the existing glass units, but it is often not recommended or cost-effective compared to full replacements. It is generally better to replace the entire window unit—frame and glass—to ensure proper energy efficiency and a lasting, draught-free fix, with total costs often ranging from £200-£800 per window"

"Yes, it is technically possible to replace just the uPVC frames and keep the existing glass units, but in most cases it’s not recommended or cost-effective.
Double or triple glazed units are usually manufactured specifically for each frame, so removing and refitting them into new frames can be risky. There’s a high chance of damaging the sealed units or ending up with poor insulation and sealing.
In terms of cost, replacing only the frames often ends up very close to the price of a full window replacement (frame + glass), because:
Labour is almost the same
You still need proper sealing and making good internally/externally
There’s no warranty on reused glass in most cases
For two average-sized uPVC windows in the UK, you’re typically looking at:
£400–£800 per window for full replacement (supply & fit)
Frames-only (if done) might save very little and can create future issues
If your frames are cracked and draughty, the best long-term solution is a full replacement with new energy-efficient units. You’ll get:
Better insulation (lower heating bills)
Full guarantee
Compliance with building regulations
If you want, I can give you a more accurate estimate based on sizes or photos.
If you want, I can make a more “sales aggressive” version that pulls them straight into contacting ED Property Services."

"Hi. You would really struggle to get frames to fit old glass in and in all honesty it wouldnt really save you much even if you could. Unless the glass is a design /leaded or something bespoke i would probably suggest going with new glass in the new frames."

"Yeah it is possible depending on the glass from the old windows and I would personally say you would be better changing the old glass as new glass would last a lot longer then the old glass and cost would depends on size and frame style, frame colour."
