How much do uPVC sliding sash windows cost?

We have a 1930s semi with eight original timber sashes that rattle and let in draughts. One company has quoted just over £9,000 for uPVC sliding sash replacements. Does that sound about right per window?

"Dependant on existing sash boxes, ie the side internal frames, how much work is required, if any, the costs should relatively be £800 per replacement in white or £850 if extra internal work is required."

"Sounds a bit excessive each window would normally be from about £650 dependant on size furniture glass options etc"

"I would say that is very dependent on the level of making good per window. Some original sash boxes leave hell of a mess when removed, and require stud work and plaster to make good.

£9000 sounds high but get a second quote for comparison, all the companies telling you how much without looking are just trying to snatch the work."
