Where's cheapest to buy wood?

Where's generally cheapest to buy wood when you don't have a trade account: a timber yard or DIY store? And is there any difference in quality?

"Hello the cheapest place would be a diy store, the quality dies differ slightly, but still very usable.
Timber merchants can bit abit pricey, especially for walk ins"

"As a trades man and depending on the customers spec will depend on where I purchase timber if fencing I use a local timber merchant normally or if doing a roof or floor joists would use a builders merchant as they normally have the correct standard of timbere needed such as c24 or c16"
