What height fence can i put up in front garden

Can a fencing expert just confirm this for me? Google shows it at 3ft, but is there any way I push this to improve privacy?

"I’ve done a fair few of these fences on the front garden and aswell as you’d like to have it as high as you can to block the neighbours out but the fence can only go roughly about three to four foot so I always put a a gravel board in n a three foot fence panel and always bin sound 👍🏻"

"## 🏡 UK Fence Height Rules Explained Simply

Thinking of putting up a new fence? Here's the lowdown on the maximum legal heights in the UK without needing planning permission:

---

### What's the Maximum Height?

* **Most Common Boundaries (Side & Rear):** You can build your fence up to **2 metres** (about 6 feet 6 inches) high.
* **Front Boundaries / Next to a Public Highway:** If your fence runs alongside a public road, pavement, or footpath, the limit drops to **1 metre** (about 3 feet 3 inches).

---

### Key Things to Remember

* 📏 **How to Measure:** The height is always measured from the **natural ground level** on *your* side of the boundary. You can't raise the ground just to gain extra height!
* 🌿 **Trellis Counts:** If you add a trellis or any decorative topping, it counts towards the total maximum height.
* 📜 **Checking Your Deeds:** Check your property deeds (often marked with a 'T') to confirm which boundary fences you are **legally responsible** for maintaining.
* 🤝 **Talk to Your Neighbour:** It's not legally required if the fence is within height limits and on your own land, but it's *always* best to discuss your plans with your neighbour first to keep things friendly! **Crucially, you can't attach anything to their existing fence without their OK.**
* ⚠️ **When to Get Permission:** If you want a fence taller than the legal maximum, or if your property is in a special area (like a Conservation Area or National Park), you **must apply for planning permission** from your local council first."
