Water pooling on decking over time

Question

Our decking used to drain fine but now water sits on it after rain. Nothing's changed structurally though..has the wood just warped, or could it be the base that's shifted?

Water pooling on decking is often caused by slight movement in the subframe or supporting posts over time, although warped or sagging deck boards can also contribute. Timber naturally expands, contracts and settles with age, which can affect drainage falls. I’d recommend checking the condition of the boards, joists and supports to identify any low spots. In many cases, re-levelling sections of the deck or replacing damaged boards will restore proper drainage and prevent standing water from causing further deterioration.

Yes, it could be either. If the water is only pooling in a few spots, the boards have likely warped or cupped. If larger areas are holding water, the subframe or base may have settled slightly over time. Even a few millimetres of movement can affect drainage.

This is a really common issue and usually comes down to one of two causes or a combination of both.

Wood warping is the most likely culprit if the decking is a few years old. Timber naturally expands and contracts with seasonal moisture changes, and over time boards can bow or cup slightly, creating low spots where water collects. Even treated decking does this eventually, especially if it hasn't been regularly oiled or sealed.

Base/joist movement is the other possibility. Ground movement, soil settling or softening of the supporting joists over time can cause a very slight shift in the overall level of the deck, enough to reverse the drainage direction without it being visually obvious.

my answer to this is it is probably the base at fault cant say for sure till see it don't attempt patch it up  . it needs to be completely re doing  .Rip it out to the very core start again from start

The wood is swollen, replace the decking boards and treat them with a waterproof paint or a waterproof yacht vanish
