Temporary chimney seal

Is it possible to temporarily seal a chimney over winter? The whole chimney needs repointing but it looks like we (me and adjoining neighbour) won't be able to do that this year.

"It’s possible to cover with some sort of sheet but work involved wouldn’t be cost effective and to the job properly would involve pointing / capping and spraying with water seal"

"YES IT IS , however you have to get up there to do so why don t you fix it while you are there ? Easy way buy Acropol fibreglass paint , paint the brick or stone with this and it will stay dry for a few years"
