Swapping fascia boards

Can you replace wooden fascia boards for uPVC? I assume they're mostly decorative and easy to swap? Am I right?

"no to do it properly you would have to replace the wooden fascia then put your upvc over the top of it so that way your plastic fascia has got the wood to give it a firm fix to the house otherwise heavy wind will simply snap it back off this is the proper way to do that job"

"Yes you can. If they are not rotten, you can plant over them with a cover board, or take off old ones and use a replacement board which is thicker, in that case if rafters are flush with building you will need to pack the ends with batton."

"yes you can, there is 2 ways to do this, the expensive way or the cheaper way.
ist of all, what separates these 2 jobs is, are the existing fascia boards rotten. If so the fascias will have to be removed & a full 18mm full replacement board fitted
which is more costly labour and material price. If not a 10mm capping board can
be replaced over the top, without having to strip out. Make sure a capping board is
not being fitted over rotten fascias, totally pointless."
