"Hardwood is best to use, as a birdhouse is outdoors. A sheet of marine-ply and 2x3 timber with the relevant screws is all you need, but make sure your measurements are true and correct for a perfect finish."

"Water resistant or marine plywood is good. But certain hardwoods are very good and resistant to the elements and moisture. Oak, larch and cedar hardwoods are very good because of the tough hard strength of them, and/or the high oils content and tannic acid content which are basically present in these types of wood naturally. Using a good quality glue and proper assembly using good screws and filling, painting and properly sealing the wood against moisture and rain will result in a very good birdbox that should last a long time provided that you give it another coat of paint or varnish and keeping the box sealed and maintained every year or two and your birdbox will last forever with regular maintenance."

"You are going to need timber, preferably plyboard 12m 2x2 timber and screws"
