Roof tile replacements

Should roof tiles always be replaced like for like? Does it matter what material they're made from?

"U can put any tile on and it depends on the pitch of the roof if u choose a different tile to ur neighbour u will have to put a bonding board in"

"Yes if you aren’t having the full roof re-tiled I would always recommend to have like the light tiles as otherwise they will not connect together and could cause leaks so if I was to replace tiles I would replace like for like and make sure they slot together because if you don’t it will cause leaks in the loft and cause more trouble than enough?"

"Normally get the same tile to replace them with just depends on the tile."

"Depends on the tradesman if your having a new roof you can choose any tiles or if your having a quick repair done you can youes different materials."
