what plants to put in a rockery?

I've unearthed an old rockery underneath some brambles in my garden. I'd like to restore it but I'm not sure what to plant in it. It's in a semi-shaded area with a bit of a slope. The stones are there but not much else.

"A ROCKERY IS INTENDED TO MIRROR THE CONDITIONS FOUND IN A MOUNTAINOUS REGION AND THEREFORE A FREE DRAINING SOIL WILL WORK BEST FOR YOU.

AS YOU HAVE JUST FOUND THIS ROCKERY YOU MAY WANT TO MIX IN SOME MATERIAL SUCH AS GRAVEL OR SAND TO AID THIS DRAINAGE

ALPINE PLANTS WHICH CAN BE FOUND AT MANY GOOD GARDEN CENTRES WOULD WORK BEST AND ARE GENERALLY GOOD ALL YEAR AROUND PLANTS.

I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SUPPLY AND RECOMMEND PLANTS IF YOU WOULD LIKE HELP OR PROVIDE ONLINE OR TELEPHONE CONSULTANCY. I CAN ALSO VISIT YOUR GARDEN IF REQUIRED"

"There are many plants available to grow in shaded areas. Be sure to choose a plant that is recommended for the type of shade the rockery is in. Light or heavy shade for example.
Lily of the valley a a good grower in shade"

"HI PATRICK
Regarding the rockery area in your garden, you have large choices of ornamental plants(alpine or/and non alpine plants), I personally go for medical plants (thyme, rosemary..)
Happy gardning"

"Hi,
the best plants for rockery are sedums or alpine plants but please check before you restore the rockery if it is on sunny place so plants would get enough sunlight.
Check Pinterest for more inspiration."

"There are plenty of great plants to consider for an alpine rock garden.

But when you are getting started with growing alpines, it can be great to have a list of some of the favourites that you can use as a starting point for making your selections.

A rock garden is a great feature for a garden – typically in a sunny and open spot.

Some very reliable and popular alpine and rockery plants are -

Aubretia, campanula, dianthus, gentian verna, phlox, penstemons, sedum, thyme and Veronica."

"Try adding some hostas or some heather, both do really well in the shade, don’t require much maintenance at all and are frost hardy too"
