Replace electric shower

Hi hive mind
I'm moving into a new house soon and planning to completely rip out the bathroom and start again. Currently there is a bath with an electric shower. the water is served by a tank (there's one in the loft and one in the cupboard next to the bathroom) i'm assuming there are hot and cold pipes running from the water tank to serve the bath taps? in this case when i do the re-fit is it going to be possible to install a mixer shower (i plan to get rid of the bath entirely for a nice walk in shower/wet room look) or am i forever stuck with electric showers? the tiles and floors will be getting ripped up anyway so i'm assuming it shouldn't be a problem?

Thanks all!

"Yes if you have a hot and cold feed putting a mixer in fairly straightforward just spur off the feed and put in the couplers for mixer"

"Hi know you would not be able to fit a mixer shower without fitting a pump because you have gravity fed cold water from the tank in above and hot water coming from the cylinder so if the new shower head is above the height of the cylinder there is no pressure for hot so a Essex flange needs fitting to cylinder and connecting to a pump to hot feed of shower and cold main supply needs teeing into to feed the cold for enough pressure unless there is already mains pressure cold in the bathroom so I’d suggest getting a universal pump feel to message me for advice"

"Hi
It sounds live you have an unvented hot water cylinder with a cold water storage tank in the loft.
You can have a mixer shower installed in the bathroom .
However you may wish to have a pump installed so that you could have a much beter shower performance."

"Its defiantly possible but I would advise installing a shower pump also, gravity fed showers are quite under pressured"

"You have a gravity fed system. To fit a mixer shower you would need to install a Surrey valve to the top of the hot water cylinder and ensure the cold water supply is not from the mains, in other words, it comes from the cold storage tank in the loft. Then you would need to install a pump to provide reasonable pressure."

"Absolutely, it's entirely possible to install a mixer shower in place of the electric shower, especially since you're planning to remodel the bathroom entirely.

Given the setup you've described with separate hot and cold water tanks, it sounds like a gravity-fed system. To install a mixer shower, you'll likely need to:

1. **Remove the Bath:** Since you plan to remove the bath entirely for a walk-in shower, this allows more flexibility in rearranging the plumbing.

2. **Reconfigure Plumbing:** You'll need a plumber to reconfigure the hot and cold water pipes to feed a mixer shower. This might involve running new pipes from the tanks to the new shower location. They might also need to adjust the plumbing layout to accommodate the mixer valve.

3. **Choose the Right Mixer Shower:** Ensure you select a mixer shower suitable for a gravity-fed system. Some mixers are specifically designed to work efficiently with lower water pressure, which is typical in gravity-fed systems.

4. **Consider Pump Options:** Depending on your water pressure, you might need to install a pump to ensure adequate pressure for the mixer shower. A plumber can advise you on whether a pump is necessary for your setup.

Since you're doing a complete renovation and planning to redo the tiles and floors, it's an ideal time to rework the plumbing to accommodate a mixer shower. However, it's essential to consult with a qualified plumber to assess your specific plumbing setup, water pressure, and ensure the new shower system will work effectively.

By having a professional evaluate your situation and oversee the installation, you can ensure that the mixer shower is installed correctly and that you'll have a reliable and efficient showering system in your renovated bathroom."

"You would need to a pump to increase the flow due to your system you have. A combi boiler works better with a thermostatic shower"

"Yes you can install a mixer

While it's definitely possible to replace an electric shower with a mixer shower in your bathroom, it's essential to plan the plumbing and renovation carefully. You might want to consult with a plumber or a professional bathroom fitter to assess your specific situation and provide guidance on how to proceed"

"Hi, it is possible to install a shower mixer but I'd advise getting a shower pump installed too to help boost pressure and flow rate."
